Stillborn and Infant Loss Support (SAILS) understands that when someone you care about experiences the tragic event of a miscarriage, stillborn, or infant loss, you cannot save them from their pain. Instead, you are the lifebuoy to keep them afloat as they navigate their immense sadness.
Perhaps you don’t know what to say. Maybe you’re worried about saying the wrong thing, so you decide to say nothing at all. Instead of worrying, reaffirm what someone is feeling. Some suggestions to consider:
“I’m so sorry for your loss.” “I’m praying for/thinking about you.” “Can I take your kids for a few hours?” “You go rest and let me take care of you today.” “I love you.”
Often, behind every mother, there is a father or partner who is the strong one while grieving. A phone call, text, or stop by to check in can be a lifeline to grieving.
Understandably, you might want to do more than be a good listener and offer a loving hand. Whether you want to purchase freshly prepared meals, schedule a house cleaning to ease the burden of daily life, or select a thoughtful gift from the SAILS shop, our partners are ready to help you express your sympathy and make life easier at this difficult time.
